Die Bücherverbrennung in Deutschland am 10. Mai 1933 war eine von der Deutschen Studentenschaft geplante und inszenierte Aktion, bei der Studenten, Professoren und Mitglieder nationalsozialistischer Parteiorgane die Werke von ihnen verfemter Autoren (siehe Liste der verbrannten Bücher 1933) ins Feuer warfen. Sie fand unter der Führung des Nationalsozialistischen Deutschen Studentenbundes (NSDStB) auf dem ehemaligen Berliner Opernplatz (seit 1947 Bebelplatz; benannt nach August Bebel)[1] und in 21 weiteren deutschen Universitätsstädten statt.

Die öffentlichen Bücherverbrennungen waren der Höhepunkt der sogenannten "Aktion wider den undeutschen Geist", mit der kurz nach der "Machtergreifung" der Nationalsozialisten, im März 1933, die systematische Verfolgung jüdischer, marxistischer, pazifistischer und anderer oppositioneller oder politisch unliebsamer Schriftsteller begann.
